When we chase religious effort hoping it will finally fulfil us and make us right with God it eventually leaves us feeling empty. Hebrews 10 says that's because the old sacrifices could never finish that job; they could only point to a need they couldn't meet. But what God has always wanted isn't more sacrifice. It's an obedient heart.

Like Christ — the obedient Son. And in Him, God gives us both: He receives us as His own, and He's shaping us into the likeness of the One who obeyed for us.
