Our Story

How it all started...

Wally Kurcz - the founding pastor (and current board member) of Calvary GVR  had been serving in ministry since 1986 but in 2008 the Lord began to burden his heart for the community of Green Valley Ranch in far NE Denver.  On October 29th, 2009 the first prayer and worship meeting was held in the basement of the Oakwood office building.

Expanding the vision...

God continued to grow and bless this little prayer meeting until in 2010 we outgrew that space and moved to the Evie  Garret Dennis Campus building.  During that time God has strengthened us and grown us through the ups and downs of mobile ministry -  Dozens of new church plants have come and gone in the time we have been here, but God has held us strong and blessed the ministry greatly.
On January 8th, 2023, after 37 years in ministry and 14 years in Green Valley Ranch, Pastor Wally retired to spend more time with his grandchildren.

a lighthouse in ne denver...

In many ways, Green Valley Ranch is like a port town of old days. People pass through our airport and our community. At Calvary GVR we have the privilege of being a lighthouse - a beacon of Christ's light - to weary travelers.  We are a place in the community where people can always come to experience  the love  of Christ as we teach the full counsel of His Word, share His love through authentic Christian community, and serve the people around us sacrificially.
We are convinced that where God guides He is faithful to provide. And God has clearly guided us to be a lighthouse and increase our ministry  here in NE Denver...
... As we step into this next season of ministry we are excited to see God's provision in action: He continues to bring new people every week; He faithfully fills us with every good thing we need to accomplish His work; and we trust that He will be faithful to provide a permanent location to minister in this community.
